Tim was born in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1955 to Robert Daniel and Marjorie Elizabeth (Sitzmann) Gilligan. As a child, he moved with his parents and siblings to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where he graduated from MacArthur High School and began his career as an airline purchasing agent. There, he met the love of his life, Kay Stevens, and the two were married in Dallas in 1985. Together they raised their family and, in 2003, moved to Pawleys Island, South Carolina where they fell in love with the "arrogantly shabby" lifestyle. Tim and Kay settled in Livingston, Texas in retirement to be closer to family where they remained through his 2021 diagnosis and subsequent fight with Alzheimer's.
Tim found joy in the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, but what truly made those experiences special was sharing them with those he loved. He was a natural caretaker, always putting others before himself and offering his time and wisdom freely. His sharp mind shone not only in Jeopardy and newspaper crosswords but also in games like pool, darts, and foosball where he was always a tough competitor. Tim's quick wit and playful banter kept everyone laughing, and his friendly jabs were his way of showing love. His humor, intelligence, and loyalty made a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Tim is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Kay, their children Valerie Gartee (Michael), Maggie Gilligan, and Michael Gilligan (Anna). He was a proud and loving grandfather, affectionately known as 'Grumpy,' to Sadie, Bella, Paislie, Charlie, Elizabeth, Liam, and Lucy. Missing their brother are siblings Dan Gilligan (Lynn), Julie Avila (Todd), Mary Andre (David), and Joanie Gilligan. Missing their Uncle Tim are countless nieces and nephews.
Tim was preceded in death by parents, Bob and Marge, and brother John Gilligan.
Tim's legacy of love, kindness, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Memorial gifts may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association.

It was our privilege to know him these last five years, and for our families to be connected through the marriage of Anna and Michael. The time with him was too short, but it was full of laughter and happy occasions and Tim's wide smile -- that is what we will remember. God bless all of you, and Godspeed to Tim.
