Mrs. Baggett was a career homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Visiting family and friends were often impressed by her gracious servings of pecan pie and Italian cream cake and her not-so-generous competitive nature at dominoes, 42, bingo and other table games.
She taught Sunday school and sang in the choirs of small country churches over the years. Later in life she was a member of Central Baptist Church in Livingston.
She is survived by son Donnis Baggett and his wife Beverly Brown of Bryan, daughter Martha Ellis and her husband Bill Hodges of Livingston, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Born Aug. 2, 1933 in the Ollie community of northeast Polk County to James R. Baxley and Elizabeth Davis Baxley, she was a graduate of Livingston High School. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Sam Baggett Jr.; six brothers, and two sisters.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Oakdale Cemetery under the direction of Pace Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sena Whitaker of Gentiva Hospice officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund at the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, 241 Earl Garrett Street, Kerrville, TX 78028.
