Robert "Bobby" Lawrence Cardenas (aka Shadow), 75, Onalaska, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 22, 2024, from natural causes.

Bobby was born on December 10, 1948 to William R. and Sandra E. Cardenas in Detroit, MI. After Bobby graduated Livonia Franklin High School in 1967, he went on to earn a degree in life.

Bobby loved his family and embraced his Mexican heritage. As a young man, Bobby appeared in the Detroit News for his golfing abilities. He liked to stay active, whether he was coaching little league softball and basketball, skiing (water and snow), competing in bed races, rollerblading, or simply being with friends. Bobby had many friends and a smile that lit up any room with his unmistakable upbeat demeanor and greeting, "que pasa". He had a great sense of humor and always had people laughing. Bobby loved music and could cut a rug on the dance floor. He once lived in Carefree, AZ, on Easy Street, and anyone who knew Bobby knows this fit him perfectly. His zest for life was unmatched and he lived it on his own terms to the fullest. Let it be noted that Bobby did not like canned spinach!

Bobby was predeceased in death by his parents William R. and Sandra E. Cardenas. He is survived by siblings Joyce Miltz (John), Curtis Cardenas, and Hollie Cardenas; nephew Chris Miltz (Whitney); nieces, Casie Miltz, Mariah Cardenas, and Alanah Thomas-Cardenas (Chris); great nephew Ezra Miltz; and his dog Louie.

Bobby will return home to Michigan for his final resting place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Bobby was generous to a fault. You see, when he was younger he decided to become an ice cream man! Living next door we felt we hit the jackpot! I guess we did! Bobby never charged us for any of the ice cream we gobbled down. Dare I say, we ate his complete inventory and he never complained. What a great guy, gentle and kind. Thanks Bobby, you were a good friend and loved by many. Rest in peace. Rocky

My prayers to Joyce and the family to ease their pain after the loss of Bobby. He was an original in the best way possible. I will miss him just “showing up” when there was a reunion or help was needed. Please let me know when a memorial is planned in Michigan. My heart goes out to you all.

Growing up Bobby would visit my dad every once in a while. We got so excited when we found out was coming because he always had a new trick. Whether it was juggling or just a fake thumb magic trick he usually had one goal… make us smile. It worked. Although we didn’t get to see him much in later years he still managed to let me know how fond he was of my father and how he wished he had more time with family. He will be missed. Rest easy Shadow!

I remember the back yard parties he used to throw the street was lined with cars.
